Larne Drama Circle presents “The Cemetery Club”

23rd February Annual Mid and East Antrim Borough Council Sports Awards
December 16, 2016

The Larne Drama Circle is bring ‘The Cemetery Club’, directed by Jay Alexander, to the McNeill Theatre on Wednesday 16, Thursday 17 and Friday November 18.

The Cemetery Club is a touching story about three superannuated, feuding Jewish women. It has been praised widely as poignant, wise and gloriously witty. It has been described by some as “Steel Magnolias” meets “The Golden Girls”.

Three women, Ida (Michelle King), Doris (Lucinda McCluskey) and Lucille (Alison McCubbin) have known each other for years. Having reached widowhood, they meet at Ida’s New York house to remember the good times and then trundle off to the cemetery to visit their late husbands’ graves. Doris defines contentment: Her husband’s memory is enough for her, and she channels most of her energy into indignation about the cemetery’s lousy upkeep.

Lucille hunts for clothing bargains and men with equal gusto and considers all of it invigorating payback for her deceased husband’s infidelity. At first, Ida is as frozen in time as Doris is, but she begins to wonder if it might finally be time to say good-bye to the monthly cemetery visit and leave room for ‘the next chapter’.
